Work work work...
...but it seems like I saw everyone today, most especially Paris, who I managed to run into during my break, so I had a coffee with her. Quite fun, but I've been working so much I am buggered. God I hope they don't ring me tomorrow morning, theres a 354656458 things I have to do. I've been working a lot at Booragoon Action, lots of nice people, and Rebecca, even though she hasn't come to talk to me :( :( :( too cool for jase I guess :( :( ;(.Big surprise though, when I got home Jus told me he was going away to Malaysia and Singapore for a week and a half this Friday, so lots of fun Justipoo. Tell me if you find a singaporean who isn't a total jerk.
I downloaded Garden State the other night, and I must say I enjoyed the movie very very much, which isn't entirely attributed to Natalie Portman as some of you might think. Essentially, the movie details the story of a guy named Andrew Largeman (played by Zach Braffman from Scrubs), a relatively unsuccessful actor who works as a waiter in a restaurant. He also has been on lithium and other assorted prescription drugs since he was 9, prescribed to him by his psychiatrist father. Having lived most of his life in a chemical stupor, he returns to his home town for the funeral of his mother, forgetting his medication, and while over there catches up with his old friends who, like him, haven't really achieved much in life. He also meets a girl named Sam (played by Natalie Portman), who is an outgoing, quirky yet innocent girl that inside is very fragile, while also an incorrigible compulsive liar. The movie details his eventual spiritual journey from a dull insulated guy to a more self assured, lively adult as he slowly recovers from the effects of being on prescription drugs for so long. I guess I really enjoyed the movie because I could identify with the themes of alienation from society and the feeling of aimlessness as these twentysomethings try to find a place in life and society. Zach Braffman plays the role of drug addled Andrew perfectly, and Natalie Portman is endearingly charming with her portrayal of Sam, with more than able support of Peter Sarsgaard as Mark, one of Andrew's old friends who's primary occupation is a gravedigger. I guess I'm a little artsy on the inside, because I love indie/independent movies with a passion, and like Igby Goes Down, this movie struck a chord in me a lot of bigger budget Hollywood movies haven't. Overall, I'd give it 8.5/10, and I would love to watch the movie again in the cinemas if anyone is interested in watching it with me. It look me 15 hrs to download it, and I watched it from 2-4 in the morning right after the download finished. I was called up and went to work at 9, I nearly hit a car on the way home cos I was so tired, and had nightmares, but it was worth it. The music is quite good too, especially with the relatively notable mention of The Shins, an indie sub pop band I've been a fan of for quite a while, so the mention in the movie of them was a pleasant surprise.
Worked from 8-6 today, so I'm pretty tired, so I'll leave it at that. Despite the fact that I've been listening non stop to teh Garden State OST since watching the movie, I can't get that song "Miss Hilton" by Pennyfifteen club (they always play it in Simple Life) out of my head.
Buh bye.
Oh my, looky there
Stone-cold foxy, platinum hair
Short skirt, barely there
Make a chick wanna hate, make a boy wanna stare
Well, Ms. Hilton you must be worth a trillion bucks
Get the feelin' that you don’t really give a fuck
Ms. Hilton I like the way you push and glide
Rollerskates on a social butterfly, whoo!
UPDATE: OMG OMG THE SHINS ARE OMING TO PERTH NEXT FEB. Just heard it on the radio. Shib-shib-shiiiibbbbyyyyy.
