Let's talk about music, books, and well, thats really about it. I'll insert some references to sex or boobies for those not interested in that stuff though.

Since the last time I talked about music, I was raving about the "emofolk" brilliance of I'm Wide Awake It's Morning, with mentions of Damien Rice's "O" and something that probably wasn't quite so good, since I don't remember it. But anyway, some albums that have been released since then that I want to comment on, and some I've put off because Bright Eyes eclipsed it. It's been a pretty dry music wise for me though, so I can only comment on a couple that have remotely caught my interest.

Blinking Lights and Other Revelations; The Eels. As many of you might know, I consider the Eels as one of my all time favourite bands, with Everett's variance betwen pop sweet whimsy to folk/blues depression, with lyrics often rebounding between the two. So when I heard that Blinking Lights and Other Revelations was being released, consisting not one, but two cd's of eel goodness, I was naturally in a swoon. I bought it shortly before I got I'm Wide Awake It's Morning, and I recently gave it a second chance. When I first heard it, the overwhelming instinctive first reacion was, its all the same. And my opinion of it hasn't changed. It's the same Eels formula of eclectic mix of rock, folk and pop, with the standard eels lyrics dealing with suicide, faded love, disappointment, contrasted with lyrics that harken back to the days of child like innocence and wonder. But that's the thing. It doesn't deviate from the traditional Eels formula, or progressed any further musically or lyrically. I guess thats why, in the end, I was pretty disappointed with the album. I guess I expected a more progressive or evolutionary offering this time round. I'm not sure if it was because of my mood too, because I generally like listening to the Eels the most when I'm depressed, angry, or bitter (sort of a misery loves company thing I guess). However, even if I did, there are previous albums that just do it better. It could also be I've outgrown the type of music the EEls offer. I know I don't listen to them as often as I used to. Either way, although I don't regret the purchase, it just doesn't escape the feeling of "been there done that", and so the ordinariness doesn't set it apart from the other, better albums.

Picaresque; The Decemberists. A band that has gathered many accolades since it exploded into the conciousness of the indie/alt crowd with t heir breakout album HerMajesty The Decemberists returned this year with their second LP, titled Picaresque. For those unfamiliar with the Decemberists, their first album was an oddity of historical ballads and shantys in the album Her Majesty The Decemberists. In Picaresque, that sprawling, narrative based song structure hasn't changed. Its still vast, with the lead singer crooning story songs based both in the past and in the present. I downloaded it to see if it was better than Her Majesty's, since I wasn't really too taken with it, but Picaresque is still the same sort of story song affair, if a little more evolved.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah; Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. An indie pop group with some slight folk elements, it has some catchy hooks and one liners. NOt a bad effort, I enjoyed it when I listened to it Hard to describe if you don't know what indie pop is like, since the electic nature of indie pop is something you have to hear for yourself.

Plans; Deathcab for Cutie. I really like Deathcab for Cutie, although I'm not a diehard fan like a lot are. Plans continues their musical trend and doesnt deviate from standard Deathcab fare. I didn't really expect anything new really, so in that regard I wasn't disappointed. If you like Deathcab, download or buy it, chances are you'll like it.

Right now I'm listening to Architecture for Helsinki..apparently an Aussie band. I'm sorta digging it atm. Also downloading Kayne West's College Dropout and Late Registration. I'm not normally a hip hop person (as many can attest to :P), but I've heard good things about his hip hop that sets it apart from the "hip pop" that the charts are glutted with. However, any man that can go on national TV and jack the airwaves for some racial/political sermonizing is worthy of my time. Apparently his hip hop is "alternative" too, which I have to say I'm curious to what its like.

I'll leave books for another day, since I've already typed more than what I was planning...maybe on thursday..stay tuned!

OK, judging from extensive conversations, there isnt any guy who doesn't think Emma Watson is hot, with slight guilt from knowing she's only 15. Definitely an AXA (investment for the future). Hey, don't look at me like that, look how Natalie Portman turned out. SHe's going to go places, and I, among many millions of young adults, will follow her career with much interest..

On a completely unrelated note, Carebears. I like Surprise Bear the best.

Answer the questions one at a time and as quickly as you can! Again, as quickly as you can but don't advance until you've done each of them... really.

What is:
1+5 ?
2+4 ?
3+3 ?
4+2 ?
5+1 ?

Now repeat saying the number 6 to yourself as fast as you can for 15 seconds. Then click here.

P.S - "George Bush doesn't care about black people". Kayne West is my hero :P. The stunned looks on Mike Meyers and Chris Tucker's faces are priceless. Click here if you don't know what I'm talking about.

P.P.S - Jack Cafferty too. (prominent say-it-as-it-is newsreporter for CNN).

Jack Cafferty: Do you suppose, Wolf, that the arrival of the relief convoys and the political photo ops on the gulf coast happening at the very same time were a coincidence today?

Wolf Blitzer: Uh, well, we'll, I'm sure our viewers have some thoughts on that as well. These pictures, by the way, Jack, that we're getting in...(ignores question and moves on)

Wolf Blitzer: Jack a final thought before I let you go.

Jack Cafferty: It's embarrassing [followed by dead silence]
